Yesterday, I went with my mother-in-law to Houston. Kay had her annual follow-up at M.D. Anderson (and had a great report) and I thought I could get in a bit of shopping.
Change of plans for me, however. We were so close to The Museum of Fine Arts, so I decided to spend some time there. A bonus was the free admission day.
I love museums - the peace, the quiet, the expanse of space, the contemplation. Being able to hear myself breathe. Oh, and the art. I like it too. Well, some of it. I am no art connoisseur; I only know what appeals to me.
There was the exhibit, Best in Show, which was all about dogs. Enjoyed those pieces. There were also some small, special exhibits such as Norman Rockwell's The Problem We All Live With and a portrait of George Washington by Gilbert Stuart.
I also enjoyed The Target Collection of American Photography - no big surprise there, right? What's neat is that the photography collection will be on display at the Art Museum of South Texas - glad I didn't wait for it to hit Corpus Christi - it won't be here until September, 2008.
An upcoming exhibit is The Masterpieces of French Painting from The Metropolitan Museum of Art: 1800-1920. I think I will plan to bring Payne and maybe even Jackson. A couple of years ago, the MFA had a great showing of Modern Masters from the Met, and Payne liked the Picassos and Van Gogh's Starry Night. I hope there is a Suerat!
