One Reason I Don't Go to the Deer Lease Very Often

The Sound of Silence

First day of school! We have one starting 7th and one starting 4th today.

I am off to check my camera settings. Focus is off big-time.

Rope Swing

We had a quick get-away weekend with the Thompsons again this year in Leakey. It's our 4th year to make the trip with them. The Frio River is almost empty. The drought takes its toll on more than just our farming operation it seems. It sucks the life out of our recreation time too.

We did go to a hide-away swimming hole full of icy, refreshing water. It's a fun place - rope swings, small cliff off which boys (and some unnamed men) can hurl their bodies, sunshine and relaxation.

I never posted the boys' last day of school pictures. Think anyone has changed?

Easter 2009

Tradition. Some families have an Easter Egg Hunt, a big brunch, or dye eggs together.

We take horrible pictures on Easter.

Exhibit A: (not unlike 2008, someone went with the green sweater.)

Squinty eyes, wind-swept hair, goofy child. And this was one of the good ones we took after  church. The before-church ones?

Exhibit B:

Child getting dressed, mom using her angry eyes from behind the camera, dad a little frustrated.

Happens every year.

At least mom was in a better mood after church.

Maybe she was just thinking next year she'll ditch the terrible family picture and dye some eggs.

Where The Wild Things Are

Let me jump on the bandwagon of numerous blogs that have posted this trailer. I enjoyed the book as a child, and have continued to revel in it as an adult. As the mother of a couple of wild things, I am looking forward to it.

Monday Randomness

I guess it's time for a return to blogging, since it is March and all.

You know where we've been - still working with the 2 pigs left in the barn, playing lots of basketball, and starting baseball.

Jack had 4 teeth pulled today. He was quite the little trooper.

Our Bradford Pear is blooming. It has never been cold enough before to form blooms.

Jon and I funded the President's stimulus plan personally. Cannot discuss without becoming ill.

Spring Break is next week, and we will spend the bulk of it in Houston showing pigs. Fun. Or not.

Jon started planting today. Fun. Or not. Still no rain.

Baby J at 9

I just want to hit the pause button. I don't want him any older, any bigger, any wiser, any less innocent. He is so difficult some days, and rages against the machine. He is so literal, gosh is this child literal. He is the consummate bargainer - he thrives on making deals - deals to walk the pigs, deals to eat dinner, deals to play baseball. He is kind-hearted and sweet and tells me he loves me every morning when he hops out of the car at school, that dreaded building that locks him away from the legos and the tractors and the dogs he so loves, keeping him still and silent the bulk of the daylight hours. I just wish my hours with him would slow down.

Baby J was supposed to be washing his feet in the sink, but commenced playing. As usual.

All He Needs is his Rubber Ducky

Getting ready to head to San Antonio tomorrow for the S.A.L.E. We hope Payne's doesn't weigh out, and Jackson survives the trauma of telling another pig goodbye. I for one will enjoy smaller feed bills.

And yes, you would think it is 45 outside. Nope. Just 66 with the wind howling off the bay. Makes for some chilly washing.
